Flameworking
May 28 - 31, 2024 (4-day workshop)
In this workshop we will learn how to sculpt small solid insects and botanicals in borosilicate glass. Flameworking techniques we will cover include heat control, shaping, working with stringers, good seals, bridging, and how to add detail on a small scale. Students will familiarize themselves with important parts of the process such as sketching, order of operations, prep, execution, and troubleshooting.
As the class progresses, we will then assemble an insect onto a flower. Some color application techniques will be covered. The class will start with basic insects and flowers as exercises, but students are encouraged to bring an idea of what they want to create.
This class meets from 9am to 5pm each day, Tuesday through Friday, with additional studio time Tuesday through Thursday, from 5pm to 9pm. Materials for participating in the course are included. If you have specific colors you are interested in working with please bring them with you.
Additional Information
- Participation limited to students 18 years of age and up.
- Lunch is available for an additional fee; $80 for 4-day workshops.
- Classes meet 9 am to 5 pm each day. Students will have additional practice time the first three evenings of the course, Tuesday through Thursday, from 5 pm to 9 pm.
- Materials for participating in the course are included. If you have specific colors you are interested in working with please bring them with you.
- Any work from the final day of the course remaining in a kiln will be available for pick up beginning the following Monday. Students may have finished worked shipped for an additional fee.
